There's definitely a big stylistic difference in the logos between genres. Honestly once you're familiar with his style and especially the more recent art deco / art nouveau thing he has going on you'll start to recognize his logos on like every new black metal band. You will probably want to look into Christophe Szpajdel if you haven't already - he's responsible for a ridiculous amount of metal logos including some of the best known like Emperor. Logos rock and are something people do not pay attention to enough which is silly because it is often the bands first impression and business card. Speaking of black metal, WITTR I enjoy because it circumvents most black metal traditions in terms of logo designĪnd Xasthurs logo has turned itself into more of an image. I think the symmetry of logos looks nicer than the plain text of Burzum or Gorgoroth. i think it is apart of the mystic of underground metal to have an obscured logo but no means a rule. With the right planning a textual logo can become an image. Incantation's logo is not that awful but I feel it does not lack the craft as others.Īs for obscurity, I feel there is an art and subtlety when it comes to obscured text. I have always enjoyed Horna's logo because even without an accompanying image would fit on a shirt nicely.Ĭonversely, I do not like most death metal logos becasue of the uneven quality and penchant for splattering text. I have always found black metal logos pleasing to look at because they, for the most part, adhere to symmetry and complicated line work.
